Sliven

SLIVEN (SLIVNO): This prison camp was located in the Burgas department of eastern Bulgaria on a major railway line, sixty miles west of Burgas. Sliven was one of the largest prison camps in the kingdom, holding approximately 19,900 Serbian, Romanian, Russian, British, and French prisoners, including 104 Allied officers. The Bulgarians also incarcerated sixteen Serbian Orthodox priests in this facility. Christian Phildius first visited Sliven in the Fall of 1916 and the Association constructed a YMCA hut in the camp.
