Rustchak

RUSTCHAK (RUSTCHUK): This prison camp was located on the southern bank of the Danube, across from the Romanian border, in the department of Schuman in northeastern Bulgaria. The facility was situated forty miles south of Bucharest on a major railroad junction. The Bulgarians incarcerated a large number of Romanian prisoners in Rustchak after Romania entered the war in September 1916. A major typhus epidemic broke out in this camp during the war.
