Haskovo

HASKOVO (KHASOVO): This prison camp was located in south central Bulgaria, in the department of Starazagora. The Bulgarians established the facility south of the Maritza River, on the north slope of the Rhodope Mountains. The Bulgarians assigned approximately 8,000 Serbian POW's to Haskovo, as well as some Russian and British prisoners. The World's Alliance set up War Prisoners' Aid operations in Haskovo, including physical relief (supplies and financial support) during the war.
