Statistical figures based on Gong Yin, Zhongguo Tusi Zhidu (The native chieftain system in China) (Kunming: Minzu Chubanshe, 1992), 58, 61, 113-114. Rankings based on Gong, 1461–1464. The basic ranking systems of the Ming and the Qing regarding native chieftainship were largely the same, with some small differences. For example, a native prefect in the Ming ranked 4a, while it was 4b in the Qing. And native xunjian (circuit supervisor) ranked 9b in the Qing, while there was no rank in the Ming.
