Bulgarian Prision Camps

SCHUMEN (SCHUMIA): This prison camp was located in northeastern Bulgaria, fifty miles west of Varna, near the Kamtchik River. The Bulgarian Army developed Schumen into a stronghold for the defense of the kingdom before the war. The World's Alliance of YMCA's assigned a secretary to maintain War Prisoners' Aid programs in Schumen by March 1918.
