1 Laura J. Mitchell Laura J. Mitchell Laura J. Mitchell teaches African history, world history, and historical theory and method at the University of California in Irvine. She earned a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, a master's degree in foreign service from Georgetown University, and a Ph.D. in African history from UCLA. Her work explores the intersections of environmental, social, and labor histories in colonial South Africa. Professor Mitchell is active in the World History Association, FEEGI, and Past Tense. She lives in Irvine with her husband and son, where she enjoys hiking and kayaking.
