Remains from factory towns in coastal Andhra: Bhimilipatnam
Bhimilipatnam lies on the Bay of Bengal, north of Visakhapatnam. This Dutch factory was one of many along the coast. As with most of the others, it is situated right on the water at a natural harbor. It remains distinctive in appearance for its prominent clock tower, erected by the Dutch late in the eighteenth century. The photos below present places in Bhimilipatnam that remind us of its role as a factory.
The clock tower is in the middle of the town square.
Dutch, English and French graves sit just above the lighthouse.
Here and there in town, ruins remind us of the factory presence.
