Cloth styles from throughout Coastal Andhra: Challapalli / Pochampalli

Challapalli has become known for its adoption of a Pochampalli (a town near Hyderabad) style in recent years. That is, Pochampalli's use of the distinctive ikat (the thread is dyed its various colors prior to weaving). Pochampalli's designs have become very popular, and are in great demand. Challapalli (on the Krishna River, west of Machilipatnam) is now known for the ikat its weavers add to the borders and pollams of their saris. Both styles are represented in the photos below.
