Contemporary Images of Textile Workers: Pedana (Weaving)

The first three images are from a small factory with eight looms. This form of production is similar to that found in Mangalagiri. Each worker is paid a daily wage, and can produce up to 20 saris a month. The factory owner owns the looms and purchases the thread. The last photo is of an independent weaver's loom which sits in front of his house. Again, the larger weaving centers in coastal Andhra have some form of both systems — factory and independent produciton.
