The 357th Infantry Division formed at Radom, Poland in October-November 1943. It had three infantry regiments (944-946th) an artillery regiment, and battalions of fusiliers, engineers, signal and antitank troops, all numbered 357. It fought in the Tarnopol sector of Army Group Center in 1944, ending the war fighting in southeast Germany. It's home station was the XVII Military District (Vienna-Neustadt), hence it was a natural to receive the 101st and 102nd (Spanish) Infantry Companies when formed by that district in 1945.
