The 334th Infantry Division formed in late 1942 with the 754-756th Motorized Infantry Regiments and divisional artillery, engineers, signal and a composite battalion of motorized reconnaissance and antitank troops. Sent to North Africa in December 1942, it fought well but was destroyed in the final collapse of the Army Group Afrika in May 1943. Reformed from replacements in Southern France in July-August 1943, it fought the rest of the war in Italy under Army Group C.
