The 250th (Spanish) Infantry Divison was the German Army designation of the División Española Voluntaria sent to Grafenwöhr in August 1941. Its infantry regiments numbered 262, 263 and 269 and it fielded an artillery regiment and battalions of fusiliers, antitank, engineers and signal troops. It fought on the Novgorod sector in 1941-42 and on the Leningrad siege lines in 1942-43. It was repatriated in late 1943 under Allied diplomatic pressure, leaving the Spanish Legion of two reinforced infantry battalions to continue in service. However the Legion performed badly and was withdrawn from the collapsing Army Group North before final repatriation. Almost 100 veterans remained behind in Germany, augmented by several hundred Spaniards crossing the Pyrenees, eventually joining Army and SS units in the last days of the III Reich.
