The 221st Security Division formed from the 221st Infantry Division, which had participated in the Polish Campaign after forming on February 2, 1939 (from the 221st Landwehr Divison). Redesignated a security division on March 15, 1941, it had no artillery, two security regiments, the 350th and 360th, a battalion of fusilier-cyclists, and companies of antitank, engineer and signal troops. Assigned to Army Group Center, it fought in both advance and retreats, often in frontline duty. Badly damaged in the collapse of Army Group Center in mid-1944, it was disbanded soon after.
