Emilio Esteban-Infantes y Martín (1892- 1966): The second commander of the Spanish Volunteer Division serving on the Russian Front was a career staff officer and also a corps commander in the Spanish Civil War. At the time of his orders to Russia, he held responsibility for the recruiting and transport of replacements to the division. Taking command in December 1942, he led the "Blue Division" through its toughest ordeal at the Battle of Krasny Bor (February 1943), and carried out the repatriation of the force from Russia (November, 1943), having created the Spanish Legion to take its place.
